The Borough of Park Ridge, NJ adopted a Civil Rights Policy on April 27, 2010.

Here is a section of the resolution:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ADOPTED by the governing body of the Borough of Park Ridge that:
Section 1: No official, employee, appointee or volunteer of the Borough of Park Ridge by whatever title known, or any entity that is in any way a part of the Borough of Park Ridge shall engage, either directly or indirectly in any act including the failure to act that constitutes discrimination, harassment or a violation of any person’s constitutional rights while such official, employee, appointee volunteer, or entity is engaged in or acting on behalf of the Borough of Park Ridge’s business or using the facilities or property of the Borough of Park Ridge.

The 2010 Municipal Budget Public Hearing was held Tuesday, May 25th at 8:15 pm in the Council Chambers in the Municipal Building. Residents packed council chambers and the Mancinelli room was opened on the lower level where the hearing was played on closed circuit television.

For anyone who attended last night’s meeting, what a meeting it was. There was a large turn-out of Park Ridge Police officers and DPW staff, some who may be facing job loss as part of the budget cuts. Residents applauded may of these workers, praising the high quality of services provided by the boro police and DPW. One resident mentioned that the services facing possible cuts are the reason Park Ridge is a great place to reside.

Former Park Ridge Council Member Rich Hennessy asked the council to return to corresponding with residents by mail and explained that many senior citizens do not use the internet.

Several residents requested more information about the purchase of the former post office building and a proposed land swap deal with Park Ridge Animal Hospital. Council member Kane responded that these decisions were made by former council members and asked if any were present who could answer questions regarding the purchase of the property. Residents asked when the town last had that property appraised and why the town hasn’t put the building on the market.

One resident stated that the economy has been bad since 2008 and that the council should have been much better prepared. The resident also stated that he felt council member Gerry Maughn was behind a lot of the budget mismanagement and requested his resignation.

On March 31st, 2010 The Record reported the following:

PARK RIDGE – The borough is working to overcome a $1.1 million budget gap and a potential $400 increase in taxes to the owner of a home assessed at the borough average, according to the chairman of the Borough Council Finance Committee.

The preliminary budget of $11.8 million, with a tax levy of $8.7 million, is expected to be revised before it is adopted in July, Councilman Gerry Maughan said Tuesday.

Maughan said all options are being considered, including layoffs, asking employees to forgo salary increases and asking retirees and current employees to contribute toward the $1.8 million in health care costs. Read more>

The Record Editorial “Out-of-Town Voters”

If you missed the letter that was sent out by Wells and Cinannella, here is the editorial from The Record that was printed on the reverse side. It appears The Record editorial staff think Park Ridge should spend further $$$ to go after fradulent voters.

In the opinion of this blogger, there are so many bigger issues that should be addressed and would be so much more deserving of our time– like reducing our taxes! People are out of work, struggling to make ends meet and some of our council members have created a circus of their own! The mud-slinging that has gone on for the past month is an embarrassment to many us of who have to hear about it from friends and co-workers. Let’s wipe the slate clean and look for someone new to hold that seat.

New Nonprofit Aiding Shelter Dogs

Imagine being kicked-out onto the streets for misbehaving.

But, no one ever taught you right from wrong.

Halfway Hounds, a new nonprofit group aiding homeless dogs launched on April 1, 2009. This Bergen County volunteer based organization was formed to give homeless dogs a second chance, by providing the obedience training they need to become adoptable pets. The group aids shelter dogs and dogs surrendered by their owners by giving them temporary housing and behavior modification and obedience training for they can be placed in a new home.
